Jon Lloyd Great few days, a little breezy but bursts of warm sun and bright sky through dark clouds created a very moody landscape. Couldnt see anything on the Tibberton Grange pool this morning but a Heron took off from the pond to the side on my arrival. There were a couple of Coot and Tufted Duck on here yesterday. The Little Owl is still frequenting the willow on the eastern fields so I suspect this is another nest site. I will watch for further action as the weeks go by. No Yellow Wagtails amongst the cattle today or yesterday but but a pair of Red Legged Partridge were feeding close to them in the open field. A male Blackcap gave its alarm call in the bushes near the bridge over the Strine. Its not unlike the Wren alarm called but louder and more chick than tick. The stiff breeze had brought a good flock of feeding House Martins with several Swifts behind the trees on the roadside and down wind of the wetland. There were plenty of Swallows now feeding out across the open fields and a Cuckoo called in thie distance. There were other warblers around, several Whitethroats launched themselves off hedges and the Chifchaffs called from their usual locality. Male Goldfich, Chaffinch, Greenfinch called from branches in and around the hawthorn paddock. The Tawny Owl has taken to roosting in the Horse Chestnut trees on the farm drive now the canopy is broad and rain proof again. There are several new plants in flower. There are small patches of Red Campion (photo) and Yellow Rocket (photo below) the track edges.
