DIARY for the Week Beginning Sunday -29.6.03

Sunday 29th June:

Early Visit from Pete Parton.

Kingfisher, 3 Green Sandpiper, 3 Cormorant.

Jon Lloyd 11.00am

Great morning very warm. Large numbers of Swift feeding high over the eastern fields. I see the meadow has been cut. Lots of butterflies around today:

Small White, Speckled Wood, Small Tortoiseshell. Red Admiral, Peacock, Small Copper, Meadow Brown.

A flock of Lapwing (35)went up late morning whilst I sat in the hide. A Hobby flew in and went straight up onto the telegraph pole to the left of the hide. Stopped a while, undertook some light preening and disappeared in the direction of the farm - no acrobatic displays this morning!

A Winchat seen on the eastern fields was unusual, I think the second bird this year.

Also seen: Chiffchaff, Grey Partridge, Buzzard, Little Owl, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kestrel, Pair of Yellow Wagtails.

Afternoon Visit by Martin Grant

Whimbrel dropped in at 14-00 seen to fly off to the north also 2 Green Sandpipers they were still present when I left at 14-30.
