Hi Jon I met Pete Jordan at mid-day at Wall Farm, Wednesday 15th October the 2 Tawney Owls were in there usual roost in the Horse Chestnut tree in the farm drive.

We also recorded 2 Fieldfare, 8 Redwing, 2 Red-legged Partridge, 38 Teal, 300+ Woodpigeon, 51 Goldfinch, 28 Linnets, 2 Swallows, 3 Meadow Pipits, 2
Skylarks, 2 Long-tailed Tits, a Peregrine, female Sparrow Hawk, and a Reed
Bunting.

The previous visitors to the hide had recorded a Harrier, they thought it may have been a Marsh Harrier, I would think it more likely to be a Hen Harrier last year one was first recorded on the 6th October with a further 5 sightings in the same month. Certainly one to look out for.

All for now Martin

Thursday 16th- mael Peregrine, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Buzzard, Redwing 10, Fieldfare 8, Teal 35, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Linnet.

Saturday 18th - Great day, really bright and clear but a little cold - a reminder of the winter to come perhaps. The wetland hosted 20+ Teal and 5 female Shoveler this morning. A Peregrine shot through and the Stock Doves and Woodpegeons altered course. A single Green Sandpiper Dropped in at about 9.00am - what a wonderful evocative piping call. A pair of Stonechats foraged about in the rough land in the top left hand corner of the wetland.

Out in the distant sky some 70 Golden Plover wheeled about before floating low to settle. There were several small flocks of Redwing in the hedges around the farm and 200 Fieldfares. During the day I found several groups of Red legged Partridge, a single male Pied Wagtail and a Grey Wagtail. No sign of the Water Rail this morning.

Buzzards here and there on the moors sitting on telegraph and fence poles. The farm drive produced two Tawny Owls this morning.

Quite a few small birds around. I picked several small groups of Yellow Hammers another sign that winter is on the way. Meadow Pipits in ones and twos but skylark flocks up to 30 plus during the day. The local farm activity brought a god flock of Black Headed Gulls into feed and 30+ Lesser Black Backs were out feeding in the winter barley by the late afternoon.

The Weald more were busy today - flocks of 200 Starlings in the last moments of daylight and as a bright orange ball disappeared over the horzon. The Starlings scattered when a male Merlin shot through and the Golden Plover and Lapwing in the same field also took to the air. (80 Lapwing and 20 Golden Plover)
