DIARY for the Week Beginning Sunday - 25.1.04

SUNDAY 25th January - Jon Lloyd

We havehad a good week weather wise. Brilliant bright blue skys and frosty mornings. Sunday weather was brilliant and the hide visitors picked up a Short Eared Owl hunting on the banks of the Strine Pipe in the afternoon, more or less straight out from the hide. Steve France turned up a Merlin sitting on one of the fence posts around the wetland. Little Owls calling late Sunday.

By midweek the snow began to fall and the pool froze. The Teal hung on in ones and twos. Small numbers of Lapwings about and the Peregrine still likes to sit out on the 'lawn' behind the wetland.

GARDEN Birdwatch

Sunday was one of the days for the annual garden birdwatch. I had a good day and picked up a female Blackcap which came to the table every 30 minutes or so most o fthe day. The Long Tailed Tit seen early morning didnt arrive again during the garden 1 hour watch.
