FRIDAY 16th April (Jon Lloyd _ Steve France)

Common Sandpiper, Sparrowhawk, Swallow

Saturday - 17th April

A fairly changeable day with good winds by late afternoon. The Grange Pool turned up a few Swallows skimming over the water top and then rising over the trees to be buffeted by the wind. A single male Tufted Duck was diving out in the middle.

There were still 22 Swans at the Buttery but no sign of the Whooper today - I guess that might be the last of this bird.

The Wall turned up a few interesting birds. Two Curlew lifted off the wetland as I neared the end of the track down to the hide. Shortly after arriving I could hear a Common Sandpiper, obviously unhappy about the the Kestrel that was hunting over the wetland. It buzzed about for a bit, unsettled, then climbed higher and went off west. The single male tuted duck was still there and the two coots sat clamped to their nests! Found this at the roadside - unbroken - mystery!
